I watched Jurassic World Dominion with my family, it’s set after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and it’s the last film of the 6 movies in the franchise. In this film dinosaurs have been let lose into the wild and humans need to find a balance where they can co-exist. There’s a side plot about these big bug like things called locusts reproducing insanely quick, this is a problem because they are destroying crops which animals eat which humans eat.
The main characters are Chris Pratt as Owen Grady, Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire Dearing and Isabella Sermon as Maisie Lockwood. The returning cast of the original Jurassic Park films are Sam Neil as Alan Grant, Laura Dern as Ellie Sattler, Jeff Goldblum as Ian Malcom and BD Wong as Henry Wu. There are some new protagonists they are Mamoudou Athie as Ramsay Cole and DeWanda Wise as Kayla Watts. This film also stars Campbell Scott who plays Lewis Dodgson who is a character from the original film, Jurassic Park, but the actor is different unlike Alan, Ellie, Ian and Henry.
Jurassic World Dominion has some great action sequences like when Owen is on a motorbike being chased by velociraptors and barely makes it onto the plane, there is another scene when Owen and Kayla are attacked by a Pyroraptor which is my favourite dinosaur in this film, even the final battle is really good.
But….. it has its problems unfortunately.
1. The creators of the film aren’t brave enough to kill off any characters, no protagonists actually die it’s only one or two antagonists and then a few civilians.
2. As sad as it is to say it but Ian Malcolm was useless, he was such a good a character in Jurassic Park he wasn’t as good but he’s still awesome in Jurassic Park: The Lost World but in this he didn’t help or do anything at all, it’s really gutting especially because he’s my favourite character in the Jurassic franchise
3. Jurassic World and JW Fallen Kingdom both hybrids that were scary but the Therizinosaurus and Giganotasauraus (which are the main villain dinosaurs) aren’t hybrids and are nowhere near as scary as the Indominus Rex or Indoraptor.
4. There are lots of cheesy shots, for example there are a few of them all standing in frame looking “cool” and there’s a scene when they all run outside with Ramsay at the front looking so “cool” and a shot of the original three characters looking “cool”
This film had some amazing sequences but the writing was poor and the director made some bad decisions. Also there were unnecessary side plots like the locusts and Maisey’s (it’s weird, she’s like a clone but then it ends up that she’s not but because Charlotte Lockwood gave birth to her but not naturally, genetically, it’s weird). It’s annoying that we follow these side plots but in the end it does matter because they all end up in the same place fighting the same dinosaur. The film could be better especially for the last film of the original 6.
Overall I’d give it a 5/10
