Having now watched both It Chapter One & Two I have to say that I’ve got a clear favourite out of the two. In the first movie we are presented the concept and shown a victim (Georgie) of Pennywise’s attacks, his brother (Bill) sets out for revenge with his group of friends and they become our protagonists. Not only in my opinion were there too many of them, but I feel like we didn’t get to know them very well. The main plot was that Pennywise the clown would come and terrorise the town, Derry, and he would appear and kidnap kids using their worst fears to manipulate them. This, as I said, was an extremely riveting plot, yet I’d have liked more context behind their fears, so then we could have seen them develop as heroes throughout the movie. And knowing that there would be a Chapter Two felt like not much would be accomplished in Chapter One as the directors clearly had plans for a second movie.
In contrast, It Chapter Two was very intriguing and understandable. We got a sense that the characters had more background to them now they were adults, and this time we dove further into their pasts and I felt more connected to the characters. As well as this, I felt a lot more horror was shown in this movie, which made Pennywise’s character seem a lot more frightening. I enjoyed the familiarity of the town having just seen Chapter One, so I’m pleased that they didn’t relocate because I think some of the original magic would have been lost. The movie was, in my opinion, a little too long, but it did add depth to the characters so the length can be forgiven. Another negative was that there were a few too many flashbacks, fair enough for them it was supposed to be 27 years and it showed the progressing story, but they needed to focus on the present. However it concluded nicely and was very enjoyable too watch, mainly form behind a cushion though! So I would recommend it, unless you’re afraid of clowns-
