Girl Interrupted, the showstopping psychological drama following main character Sussana (played by Winona Ryder) battling her mental health and meeting other fighters.

This film was plastered on my front page of Netflix, and I was determined to see what it was about as seeing many TikTok’s about It and it’s safe to say its fans were not wrong. The plot could be somewhat difficult to understand however the way this film draws you in I’m sure it’ll have your full attention; However, I did catch myself searching things up because I only originally put this on as a background film until Susana entered Claymore and I was instantly hooked.

Seeing each girl struggle with different mental health issue no two were the same all different. However, there is no diversity every girl is white American. The only POC is the main nurse and that’s all we get.

This is 100% a movie I would recommend to people although it could be taken as glorifying and romanticising metal health. But the film never actually sells that message. Main character Sussana is scripted in this film to show suffering with mental health can be mortifying, having a hard time and suffering so badly to a point where you must be sectioned, doesn’t mean you are not saine nor that you have something wrong with you. Which is where I think Angelina Jolie’s character is brought in, Lisa Rowe the main antagonist who has been in the institution since she was twelve and has escaped several times over the eight years but is brought back every time. This character is put there to show contrast on having a hard time and incurable suffering.

I would recommend this film to anyone with an eye to film and shares a liking for classic great cinema!
