Have you ever wanted to be in tears for two consecutive hours? Boy, this is the movie for you.
Beautiful animation, score, voice acting (both OG and Dub), and writing. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
Directed by Naoko Yamada, the piece features a group of teenagers who see the connections that make and break an unspoken bullying pact against a deaf girl in their class.
"A Silent Voice" lives in the melodrama of young adult stories, but brings a gentle grace to its handling. Among the clashes between the students, there is always the feeling that they are characters living on the edge of revelation. Much of this is achieved through the visuals of the film.
"A Silent Voice" gently uses disability - including deafness, Asperger's and dyslexia - to encourage acceptance of all aspects of self and others...especially at an age when self-hatred can be at its strongest. The film surrounds its teenage protagonists with a beauty that seems to seep from the inner heart of the world… as if asking them to hold on a little longer.
