Ghostbusters The Afterlife : Good or Nah?

3 stars

16 Jan 2024

In the 2010's this is the decade where there is reboots , sequels and remakes. Big studios like Disney in particularly dose it way too often but just because its based on an existing franchise doesn't auto-manically means its a cash-grab:

(Sorry if I didn't had much to say and the reason why my speeches are short)

Concept: I like it because it expanded it that wasn't there before like well The Afterlife. The title.

Plot: It has more of a directed plot then the 2016 one and has an original story. Its also a more directed then the 2016 one but there are some elements that we never seen in the first and sequel like they did it off screen. There is this connection with ancient scale with the story which seems to be more of the focus.

Characters: The characters are handled well.

Grace is good because you empathize with her she's the little outcast kid who loves science like Egon Spencer. I love the scene the ghost of Spencer helping her at the end that's sweet and that was the same ghost who plays chess with her and so his office. That's quite cleaver and I didn't think of that.

Podcast has a good performance and I like the idea of having well you know a podcast on the team.

Only the Third of the Ghostbusters are from the same movie and sadly Harold Ramis sadly passed away in 2014. That was 7 years AFTER the Ghostbusters After Life comes out. Oh that's why they killed of Egon Spencer and not cause the plot could happen. So the scene Ray Stanz listen to Grace and we know its the same office but just without everything we know.

Trevor is a fine character because we don't get to see him at the job often and already had gf but hey is not unlikable to say the less and doesn't fall the teenage needs to edge trope.

Gozer is back and good. This is also a hot take but she is more threating then the first because she got more screen time and literary rip the guy a part in half. It makes sense since she is in the After Life and doesn't sound stupid and forced. Like when the time Palpatine comes back in the Rise of Skywalker and says this iconic quote "Somehow Palpatine Returned". I like the team didn't know Gozer returned.

This is maybe a hot take but I like the Stay Puff marshmallow man then the first because in the first he came out of know ever and never explain like where did he came from. A poster I guess? Here its a mini army and does feel dangerous at times.

The CGI is not bad: No I'm not saying the puppets or animatronics look bad but my god they can used more things with CGI like the chase scene and the ghosts. The CGI looks good and doesn't over used green screens.

The nostalgia thankfully doesn't play a part of the movie often unlike Disney Remakes.

Final thoughts: Its not a bad movie in fact its far better then the 2016 one. I honest don't have much to say and I didn't mind it. So good or nah? Well its decent but also good at the same time sorry I couldn't make up my mind. Its a goody but not a greatly. So that's all.
