Do I need a Chicken Run sequel , like I understand why after the box office failure Early Man. This made me feel worried for Aardman if they lost their grove. I mean they had been working with big studios productions like DreamWorks. Without a further do lets see it in Netflix: Concept: I like the concept of the movie. Instead of breaking out its breaking in. The Chicken Farm fun place is pretty cool and it does feel creepy at times and I do feel the danger. I think all of the high tech gadgets and gizmos is maybe a little too absurd like other Aardman movies is grounded and that where the charms comes from. Animation: Honestly that's the biggest redeemable quality of this movie and that's the animation. My god it looks really good and it's Aardman they always have flawless animation. I like how they experiment with 2D animation which I love it a lot. I notice there is a lot more camera lights then the first. Comedy: I found it funny for the most part. The slip stick is pretty funny and the "I love you mummy" line is a call back to the 2D scene. I said most because the third act which Fowler keeping talking to the snail and when he get hit by a tree is not that funny to me but I'll talk about Fowler later. Plot + Characters: The movie take place after the event of the first when Ginger and Rocky have a baby called Molly. Molly wants to see the world but when Ginger discovered there is a chicken farm close by and tell Molly not to go out. I like Molly is like Ginger but when Rocky said you are like her , like come on Aardman your good at being subtle and you spell it out to us! Can I mention that all of the baby chicks from the first are gone now , so is Molly the only child here? How dose this even work? So Molly head off to the chicken farm with the purple chicken. I was a little distracted by the re-cast of the voices at some points (especially Fowler) but not to bad. Ginger: I like the gentle side of Ginger being the mother figure and less serious. I like this alternative version of Ginger then the first. Molly is a okay written character: I like she has a consequence, at least cared her cousins (Nick and Fetor the Rats) and I think she is an nice addition to the movie. Rocky : Rocky is now a dim-witted chicken like I get it he move on being the liar but I think kind of absurd how they when a bit too far on Rocky's character. Mrs Tweedy is back, okay?: As (Almost) everyone saw the trailer Mrs Tweedy is but like why would you bring her back if she gets crushed by the door, so she's not dead? Well you got me by all accounts it doesn't make sense. But at least she has some funny lines like her current husband. Side characters: I'm annoyed that the side characters get reduce to them old selves without changing much or try to do something different. I understand its to keep the characters consistent but they try to re-create and remind us the first one. In my opinion the one that got the worst is Fowler because he always act like the first and has the basic grandpa character archetype, its one-dimensional and lazy. That's the word I never used for an Aardman movie! The second the best: The second act is a lot of fun with funny jokes , we get to see more of the Chicken Farm and I enjoyed it. There are scenes at times that try to re-create the first one noticeable when Rocky (who run out of logic) decides to jump over and its just the same but Rocky get more injuries and get sucked in the trash. Good job. The third the worst: It's my biggest criticism and disappointment of the movie like the first it's formulaic but I would argue that its more formulaic then the first because at less you didn't know Mrs Tweedy was crashed by a door but here its very basic like the gang almost die, Mrs Tweedy died but survived , the chase , Mrs Tweedy died again (Not really) , blah blah plain and simple. END OF STORY. Final thoughts: It is an unnecessary sequel but is it Classic Cinematic Junk? No but in my opinion this is the weakest Aardman movie but not the worst in fact its a solid okay sequel. Its fun but I enjoyed the first one then the sequel. Conclusion: The one sentence I describe the Chicken Run movies is... a lacking enjoyment. The two movies are solid in each of their ways but it lacks emotions and energy. Put it on and the family would had a good time but I didn't enjoyed it more as other Aardman Movies. That's all of my thoughts and feels!
