Paddington in Peru is Unsurprisingly Good

5 stars

So Paddington in Peru.

Judging the trailer, I thought this is going to be "wacky adventures: the movie" but after watching it, I can safely say its good but it's a movie that I haven't seen in 2024 and missed out which is unfortunate.

But ( WARNING: it will contains SPOILERS, so take this as you will) without a further-a-do let's get into it:

The animation is on power with the previous two but they uppen the scale of being in Peru. No really, in the behind the scenes they really did go to Peru but some of the background are green screen but even then I think the movie visual wise looks great. Also the inclusion of little details like when Paddington (uncontrollably) drive the ship but when he says "captain" the hat fells on his head. Funny visual gags like that really adds on, they could easily not add that but they did. The translations are also great, like the painting scene or when Mr Brown with the speak bubble is done very well.

For a film setting in Peru, I love the film takes the adavantage of actually going to real life locations.

I love Paddington's character arc here, the theme of him finding where he is and who he is but also valuing his family. Not to mention (again) he's polite, calm behaviour gets this character so much likeablity and charm. The ending is so well realised and wholesome.

The new characters are also great, I love Hunter Cabot of being a guy who is cursed by his family (all died to find it in such a comedic way) to finding the El Dorado's gold. However he eventually learn to value he's daughter and give up finding the gold which happeneds to be oranges from the bear tribe.

The Nun is a fun character, I love that it tries to throw us away that she is not the villain when Mrs. Bird finds out the location but it reveals she also wanted the gold but that she gets punished by going to a real Nun Church but this time with Polar Bears. I love how it's setup and the hilarious momment she always says suspicious.

Also the cherry on top is that they acknowledge the second film by making Phoenix being in the film, he thought Paddington has gold but in disappointment its just oranges.

But if I have a critique, why is Jonathan side lined again. He barely gets any develope from the sequel of being a fan of trains (like me) and its really rushed because they have to find a way to get his character in the story. To be fair its done well and i love the idea (he literally reminds me of myself), I just wish he gets to do something. He is the equivalent of Meg from Family Guy (a character who gets the spot light the less).

I also think some of the pacing is a little too fast at points.

I should also address about the recasting of Mrs. Brown actress play by Emliy Mortimer instead of Sally Hawkins. Sally (if you didn't knwo) hasn't return to the franchise, so they got Emily. I didn't mind that because I think Emily dose a good job of playing Mrs. brown.

Final Thoughts: So overall, it's a soild closure to the franchise. It's too bad I didn't saw that in threaters but if I was to ranked on my 2024, its probably 4th (3rd is Transformers One, 2nd is Wallace and Gromit; Vengeance Most Fowl and 1st aka Peak is Sonic 3).

Paddington has this funny, creative visual style of humour and also making the advanture of Paddington enduring and wholesome that thugs in to your heart strings.

So that's everything I got to say!
