Calamity Jane (1953)

Ok, so this has a little bit of a story, my dad occasionally does musicals, and he did do this one, along with Les Misérables (which does not mean Less Misterable, but rather The Miserable Ones), in anticipation of the performance, he got me the DVD of Calamity Jane allowing me to write this review.

Now, if you're a friend, you don't exactly know me as a fan of westerns. And you'd be right, I'm not, but this film's ok. It tries to do an enemies-to-lovers story. Calamity and her enemy, the terrible Wild Bill, are enemies, but after Bill insults her and she has a breakdown over not necessarily that, and he realises that she is human and he has empathy, they have a heartfelt conversation and kiss. They love each other now, despite her having a crush on Lt. Gilmartin and him having one for Katie and both admitting minutes prior.

I admit, Calamity's friendship with Katie Brown was well done, and I wouldn't have minded if the film focused on their relationship and potentially Calamity trying to stay true to herself while also accommodating her friend from the big city. Shame they didn't relise this. Solid 3.5/5.
