We're saddened to hear the news of the death of David Bowie, aged 69. An artist in every sense of the word, Bowie's influence in music, film, and beyond will last for generations.

David Bowie's films have been consistently popular among our young club members. Jim Henson's Labyrinth, in which Bowie plays the charismatic Goblin King, has over 1000 reviews from students up and down the country.

In 2013 we ran a competition where students could review a David Bowie film, for the chance to win tickets to the V&A Museum's David Bowie exhibition. 14-year-old Alexia from St Clere's School in Essex won, and was mesmerised by the experience. Her closing thoughts sum up the impact Bowie had, and will continue to have, on creative people across the world.

I now want to aim for what David Bowie, maybe not specifically everything, but I want to aim for that originality and that impact on the world and on the many lives of others. I want to be able to rise from the grounds of normality and become earth-shaking, I want to be able to pick myself up from the ground and be who I want to be.
