Jean Grey begins to develop incredible powers that corrupt and turn her into a Dark Phoenix. Now the X-Men will have to decide if the life of a team member is worth more than all the people living in the world.

Amina reviews X-Men: Dark Phoenix

As a long time X-Men fan I was excited to see my favorite characters back on the screen again. The film contains all the right ingredients, a rising star Sophie Turner and an origin story we all wanted to see on the screen, however I cannot contain the feeling I left the cinema a little disappointed. Maybe my expectations were too high or living up to its predecessors was too much, either way I couldn't help the feeling of it missing that 'zing' moment. We see young Jean Grey battle with a power she cannot control, surrounded with people that both want to nurture and hurt her. This battle with self is something I think we can all relate to.

I can praise this film for its consistent power poses and thrilling action scenes. There was also a storyline I didn't expect with mystic and the Beast, which I think, everyone will find just as surprising as I did. The film was able to convey harder topics like death, loss and pain as other superhero films shy away from expressing those feelings in characters but I think it worked well in this case. It's a sweet and sour end to a franchise we have all grown to love, however seeing all the characters back together on the screen doing what they do best made it all worth while.
