I came across Into Film in 2017 on Twitter and asked our headteacher if I could start an Into Film Club - the idea was to provide a club for those children that did not go to any extracurricular activities and could really use that experience. From there, 25 members started Hillside's Into Film Club!

Film has brought so many benefits to the pupils at Hillside because it is fun, inclusive and has encouraged social interactions that may not usually happen. Our Into Film Club is where pupils can come to share, listen and express their love of film.

Education Ambassador Fiona Lindsay,

One of my favourite moments was seeing the joy and perseverance of our filmmaking club, which was established to develop social skills and teamwork. The teams worked so well together to create animations they were really proud of, and seeing them hard at work and discussing what they were doing was really heart-warming.

Recently, our P7 classes have been involved in using Into Film resources, and the interest and quality of disscussion when looking at the 3Cs and 3Ss and the foley sounds has been amazing.

In terms of specific films, our the work based around the short film Perched was particularly engaging for our P7 pupils, and it supported our comprehension, prediction and vocabulary development. Meanwhile, we've explored a number of films on Into Film+ with the Zootopia bullies scene resulting in a great writing follow-up activity and Inside Out being fantastic for exploring emotions as part of Health and Wellbeing. This and the other resources on the Into Film+ Mental Wellbeing programme are first class.

Film has brought so many benefits to the pupils at Hillside because it is fun, inclusive and has encouraged social interactions that may not usually happen. Our Into Film Club is where pupils come to share, listen and express their love of film. Film engages our students and offers opportunities for development of literacy skills, self-expression and critical thinking skills as well as insight into characters, topics, cultures and customs. It also offers huge benefits for communication skills, teamwork, leadership and decision making. Finally, it encompasses the world of work as you can learn about careers within the film industry and the filmmaking process. Film is a powerful education tool that is available for all to reap the benefits from.
