Synopsis

Alfred Hitchcock directed this thriller, which stars Joel McCrea as reporter John Jones, who is sent to Europe by his editor on the New York Globe at the beginning of World War II under the pen name Huntley Haverstock. When there, he is plunged into intrigue as a famous diplomat is kidnapped, which leads to a chase across Holland and beyond, making Jones/Haverstock realise he can trust no one. The film was, in part, an appeal for America to enter the war but is also one of the director's most exciting films, packed full of Hitchcockian set-pieces and sly humour.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
