The best modern day war film of all time and the best war film (excluding the fictional one's e.g "Inglourious Basterds") since "Der Untergang". The film doesn't shout to be watched or throw gallons of hot piping action at our feet but rather broods with intelligence and subtle Dark tones. This film is part of what I like to call the anti-propaganda sub-genre of war films joining "Apocalypse Now" and "Platoon" standing toe to toe fighting off the evils of "Pearl Harbour" and "Triumph of the Will". It is uncompromising and hard to watch, like Apocalypse Now in tone, yet beautiful and powerful. Solid screenplay and well preformed. This film might not be my film of the year but its a worthy Oscar winner.
