Pi is a film that takes logic to the surreal. A mathematician finds his life revolving around numbers, and is gradually consumed by them. The gritty filming style and constant monochrome helps to detract the film from the look of normal everyday life, as you are drawn in to the twisted, yet genius, mind of Max Cohen . Completely detached from most social contact, except Sol Robeson, a fellow mathemetician, Max's mind degrades further and further into the void of insanity. Greusome images help to physically depict the agony of his tortured mind and eerie, piercing sounds empathise the pain. All in all, this surreal film seems highly underrated, and at only a $60.000 budget, it is truly an epic achievement.
