Terrifically acted and beautifully shot Western re-make with the distinctive deadpan humour of the Coen Brothers.

True Grit is a remake to the popular 60's classic which just like The Italian Job took the world by storm. Almost 60 years later we had our remake that for most people was not only as good as the first film but may have even surpassed it. As I never seen the original film, I am reviewing this film with an open mind and from what I can gather, it is a pretty enjoyable flick. It is a good western that will keep most audiences entertained. The story is about a 14 year old girl. Ever since his father was killed she has been living with the mother and younger brothers and sisters in an old western town. When he comes across a cowboy played by Jeff Bridges, she starts questioning him if he knows the secret to his fathers past. And it may seem like he may know something about this tragedy. And so the two of them set of to find the killer and discover the mystery themselves. While this is a western movie the film still finds a way of keeping a wide range of audiences entertained by giving the film a really good modern day sense of humour. Jeff Bridges is not the typical cowboy that you would really expect. There are times where he could be a right over the top moron and yet somehow make us laugh. The girl is also a good actress. The dialogue that she uses it actually quite old fashioned and fits the film's atmosphere too. I only have one problem with this movie and sadly it is a pretty big one. Just like The Hobbit, the film needs a lot of build up to get itself going and because of that, the first thirty minutes can be pretty boring. But soon after the film starts to pick up and becomes a old western roller coaster ride. Overall, True Grit is a fun western and possibly the only one in that genre I can actually enjoy. Most westerns do not do it for me and yes, I usually do fall asleep in the first five minutes. If you can get past the first thirty minutes, this film will be a good time guaranteed.
