In Time (2011)

In Time, a film set in the near future where all people have been genetically engineered to stop ageing at 25, and are forced to use their time as currency. Will Salas uses his newfound time to escape his poverty-ridden timezone and kidnaps all too willing Sylvia Weis, daughter to the owner of Weis timesharing. This film was very, very…interesting to say the least. I’ll begin with its good points: the fast-pacing and concept was very well-executed, the idea of using life as a currency was amazing, especially in a dystopian world that so closely resembles our own. However, the bad points were the character developments and background stories, Salas’ not becoming very clear until the Timekeeper clearly explains it, and even then it is fairly vague. Sylvia’s sudden interest in Salas is also odd, but overall the flaws in the film are outweighed by the other improvements in it. Even the younger members of our FilmClub were entertained, even going as far as to draw their own times on their arms. I’d give it a 3 or a 4 out of 10.
