The Blair Witch Project was essentially the father of most hand held camera movies we see today especially those of the horror genre like Paranormal Activity and Grave Encounters.
Its hard to articulate how I feel about this movie. On one hand it succeeded in making me somewhat scared throughout the movie without actually showing me anything but some rocks, some (literal) stick men and a person being scared. Oh and I almost forgot the distant tortured screams of one of the characters.
It managed to scare me by simply playing on my paranoia and my fear of the unknown, which is quite an achievement for a film that has such little actual horror material in it.
But on the other hand we have the acting and the plot.
The acting seems to go back and fourth from terrible to believable throughout the film but it falls short in lengthy scenes with lots of dialogue.
And then we have the plot, which consists of arguing about being lost during the day, and screaming about the tent shaking or branches snapping during the night, rinse repeat.
Which gets very tiresome very quickly
Overall I give The Blair Witch Project 3 stars for making me afraid of going camping with nothing but the use of some rock piles and sticks made to look like people.
