Painfully perceptive Scorsese film in which Robert De Niro gives an unforgettable performance as stand-up wannabe, Rupert Pupkin.

In my opinion, the King of Comedy is a masterpiece. It is a rather strange movie, for it links these unusual elements that overall make this film so great. It is a character study as well as a satire on the media of society told through purely outstanding dark comedy and De Niro, my personal favourite actor of all time, is yet again marvellous. The obsessive and eager comic Rupert Pupkin wishes to accomplish success in the showbiz by stalking his idol Jerry Langford (played by Jerry Lewis), a talk show host. And sooner or later, Pupkin decides to kidnap him. This is the 5th collaboration between Bob and Marty Scorsese and might be their best, even though it has an underrated rank by many people, and why? Because of the perfect cinematography which captures the scene of media and society, splendid direction and as mentioned before the performances are excellent, De Niro making us feel sympathy for his character, one of his greatest efforts aside his roles in Taxi Driver and Raging Bull. I recommend this to any Scorsese lover, dark comedy lover, De Niro fans and absolutely to everyone interested in film.
