Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004)

I can't remember any other film I've seen that depicts a relationship as realistically and as poignantly as this. Fantastic performance from Carrey although it's hard to watch without thinking he's going to pull out some of his childish humour. You know what I mean: Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura and other trash. Kate Winslet is brilliant. Best performance of her career (which has had it's ups and downs...) Her character has many layers and that's made clear by her performance. She's confident and fragile, attractive and annoying. Considering these aspects of the film, what really stands out is Kaufman's genuinely dizzying screenplay. His screenplays have the ability to make you feel alienated, confused, even sick. Watch Synedoche, New York and you'll understand but there are plenty of wonderful ''twists and turns'' to be found in this one, alone. The message I think the film is wanting to get across (though it must be said that the message isn't really important in this film) is that love can never truly be deleted. In this case, the film says that even erasing someone's memory of another is not enough to separate them. I know! It sounds corny but the way this wonderfully original film gets it's message across is anything but corny. It's a brilliantly intriguing love story. It's also pretty memorable (hehehehehehehe).
