The Tale of Princess Kaguya Review

The studio glibly film The Tale of Princess Kaguya is an academy award nominated film. It is based on an old Japanese folklore. It is a beautifully animated film lasting over 2 hours. It was nominated for 31 different awards including an oscar.

The animation on this film is truly beautiful every frame, every scene looks like it has been hand drawn to the finest detail. It was so pleasing to watch as it really makes the film what it is. Without the high level of animation throughout the film it would be nothing in my personal opinion. The music in this film is also truly beautiful. It gives the film the emotion and passion that me as the viewer felt.

The film is based on an old japanese folklore as previously said. An old bamboo cutter and his wife find a tiny girl inside of a bamboo stalk, as she rapidly grows into a beautiful princess her parents try to get the best things for her. We follow her story and what she goes through in her childhood and adulthood.

When i think about this film I think about the beautiful animation i saw, and the amazing soundtrack this film has. Every scene has a beautiful piece of detailed animation and every frame is truly astonishing. Without the music that is in this film I honestly think it would be the shell of the film it is. The start of the film really does grab your attention and keep you interested as you see ‘lil bamboo’ grow into this beautiful young woman. I honestly did get distracted from the film as I thought it was slightly boring after about an hour. I thought the film could easily have been split into two parts and I feel like this would have made the film better as it felt like it dragged on towards the end.

The way the film is edited is truly astonishing you barely realise that the film has gone from one big scene to another one as it is very smooth and easy to follow, but if you do not pay attention for a small part you will lose what has happened and may want to rewind and view again. Personally the way it is put together with the shots that look like basically like paintings with small details to make you realise that the film is moving and you are not just looking at pictures. The film did make me want to watch more animated films and explore the different films that are around to do with animation. It also makes you think about the other cultures that are around and what people and children go through whether or not true or not.
