Dragonball Evolution may just be the definition of bad cartoon to film adaptations. For those who have been living under a rock, Dragonball is a Anime that has existed since the late eighties and has grown massive following since then. I myself enjoy the series but of course, with every good comes any bad and this film, if you can't tell, definitely fits in with the bad category. I could just ramble on about how dreadful this film but for the sake of not making the reader tired, I will try to keep this review at least a few paragraphs long. Anyways, lets review this travesty of a film. The story of this film is about a young boy named Goku, who sets out on a quest to not only retrieve seven magical orbs but to also defeat the villainous Piccolo. While the concept of this film sounds somewhat generic, when you actually examine the plot to this movie, you will realise how utterly shameless the story truly is. Not only is the film filled to the brim with cliches which make the film unoriginal, but the filmmakers seemingly had the audacity to distance themselves to make any relation towards the tv show by changing some of the characteristics of the characters from the show which doesn't work in the very slightest. As for the characters of this film...well...as mentioned before they do not have any relation towards the Anime interpretations but the characters are also commonly displayed as either whinney, evil for no apparent reason or failed attempts at comic relief. Even the main character (Goku) is displayed as someone who doesn't want to save the world, but to teach the bullies a lesson and to go out with the girl he has a crush on. As for the villain (Piccolo) of this film, while the actor is at least tolerable for what he can offer, the character that he portrays is poorly adapted because the character has no ambition and a explanation for why he is evil. Everything else in this adaptation is also poorly made; from the stunt work being poorly portrayed, the CGI and green screen effects being easy to point out as fake to even the dialogue being terribly spoken by the actors, just shows how horribly made this film film is.
