Robot Overlords (2014)

Robot Overlords is an awesome action/adventure/sci-fi film that shows the frightening realities if robots took over the world. The story is based in the UK where robots have taken over. The robots only have one rule which is to stay inside. The humans have implants in their necks that tell the robots if they are inside or not. The main story starts in a house with 4 kids: Shaun (played by Callan McAuliffe), Callum (played by Milo Parker), Alexandra (played by Ella Hunt) and Nathen (played by James Tarpey). They discover how to turn off their implants (by electrocuting themselves with a battery). They then go looking for Shaun’s father that he knows is alive. On the kids travels Shaun discovers that he can control some of the robots as his implant malfunctions, (he discovers this by making one scratch its crotch). They are hunted down by Mr Smythe (played by Ben Kingsley) who is a collaborator that works for the robots. The film shows the journey of the kids looking for Shaun’s father. I think this movie is amazing as it only had a $21 million budget which is not a lot for a movie budget but the producers still made an excellent movie. The effects are good (for the budget, however, if they had had an unlimited budget they could have been better) the story is awesome as it is like a combination of Transformers and War of The Worlds and the overall film is great. I love all that the film is the perfect blend of immature jokes for the kids but also mature enough that older viewers will enjoy it. The film was written like a Doctor Who episode, but with a lot more swearing, as in some parts it was light-hearted and fun like when the kids went on a sugar rush in a sweet shop yet serious and tense in others like when Shaun flies a robot drone in to a mothership and makes it explode.
