Synopsis

Most of the robots you will have ever seen in a film or on TV - whether C-3PO in Star Wars, or the Cybermen in Doctor Who - are descended from the androids in this extraordinary sci-fi film that was, incredibly, made in 1927. It shows a world in which the rich live in luxurious skyscrapers, and the poor languish underground - and what happens when a man from the "thinking" class and a woman who leads the workers meet and fall in love. A spectacular and timeless movie classic.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
