It's a fun, creative, nostalgic blast to the past for the VHS generation. It takes old technology and turns it on it's head. The recreations of some of the movies are so funny, you wish there were more of them. To me, it highlights the anything-goes nature of guerrilla style filmmaking. Yet, it gets kind of sentimental, and it turns into a "save the neighborhood" movie. Michel Gondry should know better than to turn it into those types of movies.

It could've been funnier and quirkier than it ended up to be, and a lot of chances were missed here. Jack black good in the movie but it felt like he was playing himself through just a bit turn down the other performers didn't stand out at all really but besides that it is a cute little film that is very entertaining through the first and second but then becomes predictable at the end with everyone happy and nothing to be lost from the movie.
