A Christmas Carol-My Review

2 stars

08 Jan 2018

This film is an animated adaptation of the Charles Dicken's classic. Set in the 19th Century, "A Christmas Carol" is about a man who chooses money over family, friends and his lover and therefore becomes miserable and lonely. On Christmas Eve, 3 ghosts come to haunt him and teach him a lesson to be more compassionate and caring, not just at Christmas.

Personally, I think that the animated version lacks character and that the other adaptation with Patrick Stewart has a better insight on life in the 19th century/better atmosphere of the 19th century. Furthermore, I also believe that this version does not display the story completely. Although I didn't enjoy this version more than the other, I still like that Jim Carrey voiced the ghosts and that Gary Oldman provides the template for both Bob Cratchet and Marley.

This film has added humour unlike the non-animated version, but I don't think that it would be suitable for young children as there are some potentially scary scenes with the ghost of Marley and the "Death" ghost. But overall, I would give this film a 2 star because I do not rate it as much as the other version with Patrick Stewart casted with the lead role.
