Tomb Raider (2018)

I went to watch this movie not too long ago so I may as well write this seeming as it is fresh in my mind.

For starters, you can tell that this is ripped from a video game. The boat, the island, heck, even the evil company feels like it was ripped of one of the recent tomb raider games. I find the plot speed very inconsistent to where it is the last 20 minutes of the film that actually fit the title.

And the screams, oh god. Alicia Vikander's screams are awful and just incredibly unfitting for the tomb raider role. I remember Lara Croft as that one rich girl who made a concerned face in the face of death, not screaming whenever she falls off something. It was just shambles. The whole father-daughter plot was not fulfilling as I thought it would be and I didn't feel bad for any of the characters because there was barely any plot development, even towards the end where it is supposed to be a gripping moment, I felt nothing. I get that towards the end there were supposed to be puzzles but only one of them turned out to be one. I had Zero emotions for any characters that died in the film.

I have to say, it was just very disappointing, even Assassins Creed outdid this, and that genre has been lacking within the recent years. (Ubisoft, give up. Assassins creed and Farcry are losing their unique touch.) This was a disappointing mess of a movie and made me feel like the movie was the first sign of the games downfall. I say just stick to the games, each game has a longer runtime than the movie and a bigger plot development. Even the older ones will do. And please, movie makers, don't make a movie of Farcry, its still a good genre, even with Farcry 5.
