Speed Racer Review

4 stars

18 Oct 2018

Speed Racer is a movie set in the future where racing becomes a very popular, we follow Speed Racer, [the main character], on his journey to winning the Grand Prix. This movie without a doubt is starting to show its age, being a decade long this is to be expected as most movies do.

The movie its self has its flaws and is really for a certain audience, mainly families, but can be enjoyed by others if they over look a few flaws, I personally give four stars because I personally like it and think the movie does a lot of things right. Like the sound and lighting which do suit the movie’s futuristic atmosphere and make you feel like you are actually in the movie, the props, setting, costumes, and make-up don’t stick out and ruin the immersion but rather improve it, the camera’s movement, positioning, and angling is also perfect and does really help the film portray scenes brilliantly which does help portray the story ,the scenes are also very well edited together and do help with immersion, except the CGI which gets better near the end, however until then it does ruin the immersion as most CGI backgrounds can seem blurred or are painfully obviously CGI which does ruin some of the earlier scenes, the acting done by some of the actors isn’t good either but still doesn’t effect the movie too much.

The main problem with Speed Racer if you look at any of the other reviews fo this film is the script writing as it can seem all over the place, jumping back and forth in time, it also combines a lot of genres of movies, one second the characters are racing and the next thing you see them doing is fighting criminals, the movie does require you to pay attention to the story to undress and what is going on. I personally enjoy this aspect of the movie, however, other people may disagree with me.
