When I heard about this film, I was ecstatic! As a big Elton John fan and someone who really enjoyed other biopics, like Bohemian Rhapsody, I was very intrigued to see what “Rocketman” had on offer and I was not disappointed!

“Rocketman” follows the timeline of Elton John’s life before fame and then follows into his wild, vividly coloured career in the music industry. The film is able to portray his life in great detail, letting us see his childhood, how he found his talent and the relationships he shared with those around him.

The cast is absolutely superb and the actors really bounce off of each other! Taron Egerton’s portrayal of Elton John is absolutely fantastic! He really manages to capture him perfectly and I really don’t think there could have been anyone better for the role. Something I really enjoyed was the relationship between Elton John and Bernie Taupin in the film. Taron Egerton and Jamie Bell were so good together! They really were excellent at being able to reflect their relationship on screen and I found that they were so natural with each other, so you were really able to feel their friendship!

The film delved into some really heavy subjects like Drug abuse, Eating disorders, depression and a suicide attempt. The film was so good at showing the raw truth of these things and tugged at so many of my heartstrings, it was really sad to see how much these issues affected Elton.

“Rocketman” also went into a romance between Elton John and his former manager, John Reid. Richard Madden’s portrayal of John Reid was amazing and I found it really intriguing to see him in a sort of villainous role for once! Their relationship was done super well on screen and highlighted all the highs and lows, again, a brilliant blend of actors that really worked well together.

Probably my favourite part of the film was it’s soundtrack! The modern spin put on some of Elton John’s greatest hits was absolutely fantastic!! I particularly liked the acoustic styled “Tiny Dancer” and the duet between Madden and Egerton for “Honky Cat”. Truly, the soundtrack is likely one of my favourites of all time as it’s just perfection to listen to, hats off to the cast for their amazing performances!

Overall, I loved this film so much! I recommend to everyone for a feel good journey through the iconic legends life! It combines uplifting moments with sad ones, but the balance is spot on. Really do think this one might be my favourite of 2019 so far!
