The New Dark Knight-
Joker is by far my favourite new release of 2019. It's got action thrills and most importantly, clowns. Then again all good things come with negatives, ever since release date Joker has been acclaimed for having extreme unnecessary violence. This shocked fans and viewers alike and are wanting the movie shut down. I can't say I disagree but I feel like shutting down is a bit too far. There are countless murders and attacks but it's Joker, the most famous villains in history comic book and film alike.
The story and plotline of Joker follows a man, Arthur Fleck who has mental struggles with excessive laughter and a twisted mind. Arthur is left with the job of caring for his elderly mother Penny Fleck. The story slowly and intensely shows more struggles in Arthurs life with mental breakdowns and bullying. It also shows Arthur's personality of once somebody is mean they deserve the worst. It is an interesting story and you just can't help but feel for Arthur and his struggles. Joker challenges the human brain as to what is good and what is bad, much like Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight. The two stories have the same traits but follow the Joker in different stages of his life showing his journey of corruption.
The Joker is played by Joaquin Pheonix and what a wonderful portrayal. In history, Heath Ledger was pronounced as the perfect Joker but I feel Pheonix is making a run for his money. If I were to rate the three 21st century Jokers it would be close between Phoenix and Ledger and Jared Leto would be in the bottom no matter what Jokers are included. Pheonix plays a Joker that verbally shows how evil and cruel the character is but also shows how the character cares deeply about different aspects of his life. There is a perfect balance in the good and the bad in the character. This is something Ledger was able to accomplish and he did it interestingly and Pheonix was able to match that much effort into the character. It is impressive what these two incredible actors were able to achieve.
Joker was an incredible performance and it was all these little touches which perfected the film. There was excellent writing for a brilliant script and Joaquin Pheonix was able to captivate the audience in a dramatic performance and arguably his best performance. The Joker is an interesting character and only the best of the best have an opportunity to impress the audience in a brilliant performance as the worlds most famous villain. Stars like Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Cesar Romero and even Starwars star Mark Hamill who to this day voice acts Joker in video-games, animated movies and TV Shows. So Joker sweeping in reviews of 4 stars and more. If you are planning to see Joker it is quite dark and is extremely violent.
