Of mice and men is a rollercoaster of emotions taking you from highs to lows throughout the film. It's memorable and is an amazing film although it's quite outdated as it was made in 1992. The film has captured the struggles of ranch workers back in the day by showing us George and Lennie's story and their struggles throughout the film. Gary Sinise also captures the great depression during the film.
The film is about two men that work together on ranches which was very unusual at this time as most ranch workers worked by themselves. With Lennie being disabled and George looking after him and trying to fulfil their dream of owning their own ranch and having some financial power which they do not have. They go to a new ranch to work after something happens at the last one but something even worse happens at their new rancher leaving George with no other choice.
The director and actors did a very good job getting the viewers emotionally involved in the story. Lennie’s actor was amazing and really embodied his character. I believe the actors play their roles really well making their book come to life. Every actor succeeded in portraying their character and all aspects of the characters. I think the director was trying to show the life of a ranch worker back in the day and how people with disability would have struggled in society which I think he captured amazingly throughout the film. I think he also wanted to show Groege and Lennies relationship and how they stuck together and also wanted to do the best for each other.
The colours used in the film made the viewer feel like it was old and a while ago. The settings showed the type of places ranch workers had to work and inturn also shows how poor they were and how little money they made. We see this by the conditions the ranch workers lived in while at the ranch which were not the best. The film really captured the lack of financial power ranch workers had. The stylistic elements of this film accurately betrayed the scenery. It pulls you in and gets you involved in their story and keeps you wondering what's happening next. It makes the viewer feel like they are part of the film by the stylistic elements. The transitions from scene to scene flowed nicely and were very smooth.
I think that this film was superb and I really enjoyed watching it and though the plot of the film is quite simple it is also intriguing. It made me as a viewer intrigued by George and Lennie's story. I would definitely recommend this film to watch as it is an amazing film that was also very interesting. Although it is an amazing film I do not think anyone under 13 should watch this film as I do not believe it is suitable for them to watch as it contains inappropriate behaviour and viewers must be mature to watch.
