Set in Lebanon, Caramel is a heart-warming film which intertwines the stories of five women and the issues they face in their lives. Director Nadine Labaki cleverly includes humour along with the many serious issues which are addressed in the film, such as forbidden love, hidden sexuality and a refusal to accept becoming old. The film is set around a small beauty salon, which, although is fairly insignificant to the plot, is what connects the main characters Layale, Nisrine, Rima, Jamal and Rose, who during the film, we come to empathize with and the situations they face. I would definitely recommend Caramel as it was a genuinely enjoyable and thought provoking film which is definitely worth watching.
