Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)

I remember that I really loved the original Ghostbusters (1984) when I watched it a couple years ago, I don’t remember much about the second one but I liked the reboot Ghostbusters (2016) even though a lot of people didn’t. So when I first saw the trailer for this I was very excited, even more so on our way to the cinema.

The movie tells a story of a family which lost their house because they can’t afford the mortgage, but the grandfather left an old, decaying house in his will to the mum (Callie: Carrie Coon) and her children. With nowhere else to go they move to the ancient house. The two kids (Phoebe: Mckenner Grace and Trevor: Finn Wolfhard) look around, Phoebe finds a ghost trap and takes it to her new school and shows her teacher (Mr Goober: Paul Rudd). Trevor finds the original Ghostbusters car and takes it to show his friends at his new work. While this happens they accidentally release an evil ghost into the town. To stop this they grab their gear and take on the ghosts, you’ll need to find out what happens next by watching the movie. I think that to properly get the full experience out of this film you need to watch the two original Ghostbusters first (or at least have some knowledge of them).

Finn Wolfhard has been in Stranger Things and IT (which is one of my favourite films) so I was glad he was in this. Paul Rudd plays Ant-Man in the MCU (marvel cinematic universe) which is one of my favourite franchises ever and I was looking forward to seeing him in this.

It was a really fun film end I really enjoyed it, it’s a mix of horror and comedy but with a bit of drama. My favourite scene was the chase scene around the town trying to catch the little ghost. My favourite character is Podcast, he’s really funny and witty, I like characters like him in films, he’s played by Logan Kim.

The special effects have improved greatly from the first Ghostbusters, you can see a massive difference, CGI have clearly improved in 37 years! The special effects look good throughout the movie. There is a particular scene that had some amazing shots, Trevor finds the old ghostbusters car and drives it round their field, the different camera angles which were used made it a really cool scene.

Overall I’d give this film a 7.5 out of 10, I really enjoyed seeing this movie and I hope to watch it again soon.
