Treasure Planet Review

Imagine being pulled into a world…that is not known. A universe, that has been hidden with many planets you’ve never heard the names of, but one planet, stands out to them all. That, my friend, is Treasure Planet.

This film is a Disney cartoon, but not your average cartoon. It kind of half 3D, half 2D character animation (you can tell I’m an animator). The story starts on the mining planet; “Montessor”. It is a remake of another film - Treasure Island, based on the book.

When we meet Jim, a teenager that loves space, planets, and his mother’s lovely hotel, the Ben bow Inn. He, as a child, has listened and read all the “books” about captain Nathaniel Flint and his Treasure; but are these fairy tales or are they legends? One day, a UFO crashes next to the Ben bow, and appears to carry an alien inside. Though Jim and his family are used to aliens, since they come and go at the Inn. Jim tries to help the elderly alien out of his ship, and introduces himself as captain Billy Bones, and explains something about treasure planet and Nathaniel Flint…and that is where the adventure begins.

The characters in this film include a funny pink flying blob called Morph. Morph can shape-shift into anything. Things, people, places; anything. Probably my favourite character actually. The crew also includes Scroop, a spider like alien, and a bunch of other weird creatures. But, how are they actually going to find the treasure? They have a map. But no ordinary map, a orange copper ball, with patterns on it. On the ship Jim meets Long John Silver (a cyborg cook). Is he a friend or foe, and can Jim trust him?

This film performed very poorly at the box office, since it had huge competition against The Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter.

On the way Jim meets B.E.N. GUNN (Bio-electric navigator) who my family instantly realised to be a remake of Ben Gunn from Treasure ISLAND, the book and other movie!! There is so much story to this movie(I love it SOO much), I can’t fit it all in.

I wouldn’t say this film is my favourite, but I can’t seem to find any other film club film I’ve watched that could be better than Treasure Planet. So, fine, there you go. Give it up for my new favourite movie, Treasure Planet!!

I would obviously rate it five stars. I would recommend 6 or 7+, since I’m sure at that age you love space. But I think there are some dark parts, that may be upsetting.

I really enjoyed this film, all it’s funny moments, not-so-funny moments, and everything in between.

Thanks for reading! ‘^-w-^`
