Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is much better than the first one in many ways. First of all, it is much more in line to the games, with appearances from Tails, Knuckles and a game accurate Dr Robotnik. Second, the comedy is much more funnier in this film, mostly from Jim Carrey. Also, I like how this takes place not long after the first Sonic movie. The only complaint I have about this film is that there is a small bit of toilet humour and Robotnik does the floss. I can’t tell whether this is intentional or if it is because he was stuck on the Mushroom Planet for a year and he hasn’t caught up with modern day trends. The story is that Dr Robotnik (Jim Carrey) has made his way back to Earth with a new companion, Knuckles the Echidna (Idris Elba), who wants to defeat Sonic the Hedgehog (Ben Schwartz), who has been accused for stealing the Master Emerald from his tribe. Because his “Parents” Tom (James Marsden) and Maddie (Tika Sumpter) are at a wedding in Hawaii, Sonic has nobody to be safe with, so in comes Tails (Colleen O’shaughnessey). I like how Tails’ voice actor is the same person who voices him in the games. Anyways, Sonic and Tails travel the world, finding clues as to where the Master Emerald is hiding, before Robotnik and Knuckles can beat them to it. I love the casting in this movie. Jim Carrey is amazing as ever, and Idris Elba is fantastic as a cold-blooded Knuckles. Every location in the film is colourful and vibrant, even at night. Additionally, the music/score is very well done, but not as good as some other films in my opinion. I would recommend this film to anyone of any age, but some people might not understand the big reveal in the post-credits scene. This film gets a 5 star rating from me.
