Casino Royale is the 21st official movie within the James Bond franchise. Casino Royale was directed by Martin Cambell and he was also known for directing Goldeneye which is a previous movie within the franchise. Casino Royale stars Daniel Craig who was known for films such as Layer cake, Judi Dentch as M, who was in previous James Bond movies, Eva Green as Vesper Lynd and Mads Mikkelsen as Le Chiffre.
Casino Royale was Daniel Craig’s first outing bringing the character of James Bond to life. This film was based on the Ian Fleming novel of the same name which was Ian Fleming’s first novel of the James Bond series which was released in 1953. The movie is about the MI6 agent James Bond that we all know playing a high stakes poker game against the movie main antagonist Le Chiffre.
One thing I like about this movie is that this is a darker, grittier version of a James Bond movie and I think this really compliments the movie because its more serious nature helps build the tension when it is needed during the movie. The more ruthlessness of the agent is shown straight away and i think that the opening scene really sets the tone for the remainder of the movie and which could give a viewer shock if they know the franchise to be filled with the jokes and funny remarks like some of the previous films and if i had to link a previous film to compare the feeling of the film with a previous Bond film it would be Timothy Dalton's Licence to kill. I think the performances of this film are outstanding, I think that this really set an expectation of a performance for Daniel Craig for his following outings as Bond in which in my opinion he delivered well most of the time. Mads Mikkelsen really impressed me with his performance in this film and I really think that he was the right actor to portray this character and I believe that the film would not have been as good as it is without his performance and I believe that what he bring to the character makes Le Chiffre one of if not my favourite Bond Villain .
The storyline of this film is well i would not say different to other James Bond movie but i would say there is a difference in the style of storyline, what i mean by this is that this is more of a realistic story than other movies in the franchise for example Dr No or diamonds are forever and personally i feel like it helps with the mood of the movie.
Another thing that I think makes this movie a really good movie is the song to open the movie like any other James Bond movie but for casino royale the song (you know my name- Chris Cornell). The reason for this is that I believe that this song just fits so well with the movie as it has the same tone and feel to it as the movie.
One thing that people see as a problem with this movie is the duration and I can understand that this movie is long but I believe that the way this movie is set up and the things that happen in this movie I don't think this movie feels as long as it actually is.
Personally for me Casino Royale will always be the greatest movie within the franchise as this was the first Bond movie that i saw when i was younger and fell in love with this movie and is the reason that i am now a massive James Bond fan and the reason why james bond was a big part of my childhood and at the minute the only james bond that comes close to this is Skyfall (Daniel Craig’s 3rd james bond movie). Another reason why this is my favourite James Bond movie is that it is not just a good James Bond movie it's a good movie all together and can stand against some really good movies and I believe this will always be in my list of favourite movies. If you have not seen this movie i think you should definitely see this movie as it is a very good movie and may even lead you into the world of James Bond movies if you haven’t seen any before and if you have but not seen casino royale then you should watch it.
