Made from Universal Studios King Kong is one of the most famous movie monster ever (well in the western side) , being about an giant ape who kidnapped a woman and climb to the Empire State building which is basically a beauty and the beast type of story. It's a ground breaking culture classic among many audiences and critics alike. So King Kong actually did get a reboot before this which is directed by Peter Jackson of all people and I'll say its the best King Kong movie in my opinion! (not counting the monster-verse crossover movies by the way as King Kong movies, because it's is own thing in case if you are wondering) what I'm talking about! So what did I think of it that movie? Honest it's quite enjoyable to say the least, I don't know but it's so fun to watch and it's nice that King Kong get so much recognition now (you know the other infamous movie monster) , so the reboot puts a fresh spin on the franchise but without a further-a-do let's get into it!: Good world building and visuals: Where to start, ah yes the world building! King Kong movies tend to say this is a forbidden place fill of dinosaurs and insects, it's not a bad thing for any means but this movie completely show how dangerous the beasts are and the Skull Crawlers have really designs and feel threaten at times! They put more emphasis and more screen time on the Skull Island people and explaining their worship to King Kong and their home. Not to mention that they filmed this in a real country called Oahu and Queensland in Australia, as well as Vietnam. Not only this makes the world feel bigger but also feel distinct, I don't know I love who it looks bother lively and dangerous! I like the villain: Not only I love Samuel L. Jackson performance but I love that he hates the island, his whole motive is that he thinks King Kong is constantly keep killing his men also he has no purpose left because he has been defined by war for years, thank god that he could have been a one note villain saying "I hate skull" and the people behind it could have easily say the movies message "cooperate bad" but no they go further then that simply because how good the script is in my opinion. Also it's a subtle idea of Man vs. Nature being that because we are so used to our technology and design that we forgot that in our early years we used to be prey! Why King Kong is very likable and relatable character: Honestly what yo came here, I love this new version of Kong, this Kong isn't trying to be like grandpa's Kong (not saying the oldest one is out of date because who the hell would say that bull-shot!) and the movie knows it. The action is so fun to watch emphasising how huge he is and that's thanks to the CGI just look fantastic! It establish that Kong was the last of his kind and he parents died because of the Skull Crawlers, this movie gives a new perspective on Kong that we want! FINALLY! I was routing for Kong and him being a silent character is just cherry on top! Audience: "Hey, is that there monke?" Kong: "IM A APE!" Ralph should've been the main human character: (Look I love John C. Reilly performance but I refer Ralph because, I mean look at my icon. Self explanatory isn't? Anyways) Honestly I love Captain Ralph, he has such a killer action but a relatable character consider god knows who long he been in this Island and the end credits where he gets to see his wife (I might believe) is just icing on the cake! The main characters are the worst part of the movie: As much as I like this film I couldn't call this a masterpiece because of the main characters are all so boring and generic in my opinion. I wish they all have a struggle or goal in mind I'm sorry but it didn't really effect me too much from this experience to be honest. Final thoughts: So yeah I like this movie and the big guy did have many all over the years and... it's very questionable like why the hell dose a DVD animated cash grab even existed?! It's beyond me! I had good fun and probably check it out if you didn't seen it. Also one last thing, Brie Larson dose a better performance then Captain Marvel, there! I said it! Are you happy now I say something nice for once of Larson's performance? (because I'm not the biggest fan of her performance as you can tell).
