Uncle Buck is a movie THAT EXISTS....

Yeah I never seen that film before or heard it. The film is kind of odd to say the least (well to me). John Hughes can be a hit or miss person but to be fair I've seen most of the Home Alone films and that new Peter Griffin one is forced and milked by Disney. Also he seems to like writing Christmas comedies out side of Home Alone. But without a further-a-do let's get into it;

The comedy isn't that funny to me: For most part I don't the movie's sense of humour like I'm sorry. Some of them can work on paper but it lacks timing to do the punchline and come across at random like where Buck get hit by a bowling bowl or him kicking to the washing machine, these slap-sticks can work well but it's the timing that didn't hit me well, in fact I wish this movie could have been a bit more funnier. I know I'm sounding a bit harsh on the film but even then I've seen to many comedies at this point so I can't let that slide in.

Also I don't find characters saying bad words funny and it doesn't make the movie any funnier and yet again I've already seen this a million times already. It's not cringe it's just I've seen it all before and none of it makes me laugh.

The lack of character development: The big issue I had with this film is the lack of character development in the film, I know that comedies isn't supposed to be emotionally in depth but development IS important to every film and it's why we remember it. Movies like Shrek, SpongeBob Square Pants movie (2004) and Kung Fu Panda (which I've reviewed all these films) all are comedies but these films has great character developments and there is more to say then just "Ha-Ha" and that's it. That's also not saying much either or take away.

But this has none of it like when (I'm Calling him Kevin) Kevin ask for a hockey stick but the film completely forgets that and he never got a hockey stick or doing any thing about it, so what is the point the movie is trying to make? There is nothing to say about the girl's character and I don't get what are they going for her character. The kids aren't annoying but there isn't anything say about these two they are one-note and nothing else.

Also I guess the character arc of Sarah is that never trust people for $!xal activities and they are a bad influence on her but there is no hints of him acting suspicious like they could have this small detail where he is desperately wants to join her to his party like some like that and Buck hits him with a golf ball, there is no setup to Buck having troubles with golf so what's the pay-off here?

Oh yeah Buck's character is that he is a happy go lucky guy with a gambling addiction but we never see him struggle with that and it feels like he is just babysitting his brother's kids for an hour in the entire film. He is played by the comedian John Candy which he is a very talented and funny person to be fair and you know what the casting is very good and most of them are from Home Alone. It's that I think script for this is meh.

The movie's plot is very cookie-cuter and has very basic plotline for a comedy, Over The Hedge has more things going then this! It makes me wish that they tried it a bit more.

Final thoughts: So that was Uncle Buck, yeah it is very lacklustre film but is it Cinematic Classic Junk? No, not really there's nothing offensive or frustrating about this film unlike say like Ralph Breaks the Internet which this film feels like a nightmare with it's pacing but here I'll give this movie that it has good pacing and it makes for an easy watch but however all the reasons I just said I can't recommend this film. It feels like Buck is just doing but messing with his brother's kids. This movie is Home Alone but Worse! In fact why watch this if Home Alone is the superior product (if it's Christmas at that point)!

So that's everything I got to say!
