Warning: These review contains spoilers and if you DIDN'T watch the movie, DON'T read it!
So I'm not really a fan of Ghostbusters, not as like I hate it (except the cringe 2016 one) but I will say After Life is a fine movie and done well enough. But this movie is completely sucked out, I wish that I watch Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire instead of this! I wouldn't say it's a dad franchise as many some acclaimed to be. 2024 for movies is a weird year for me. Not only we are getting so many sequels from other franchises but it's the year that is my lowest. I'm not saying it's a bad year it's that I've seen bad movies this year like Despicable Me 4, Kung Fu Panda 4 and these we are taking today.
So without a further-a-do busting makes me feel bad:
Positives: So I will say the animation of Garraka is very good, I like the opening and the green ghost is funny. I honestly have nothing else to say.
Bad stuff: The main problem with the movie for me is that it has the most predictable plot line out of all of the Ghostbusters movies. Like Phoebe could easily know that Melody is working with Garraka! I feel like they did that too early and makes the liar reveal more yawning inducing. Not to mention the others like Pod Cast is completely side line and in fact most of the characters are completely side line for boring Phoebe and Melody unnecessary Melo-drama (pun intend). Nobody else have any likability or character arc, in fact nobody learn anything! It's just don't trust ghosts is so stupid and dumb! It's nothing but filler and nonsense to the plot!
Also most of the comedy is unfunny like Paul Rudd said to Garraka he's h***y ..... do you get it, he has horns, thank you for make things BETTER!
The villain is kind of lame: I feel like there isn't enough weight to Garraka, in fact the villain has a similar problem to the villain of Despicable Me 4 and Kung Fu Panda 4 which the concept about a demon scary people to death and has ice powers is cool and never been done before in Ghostbusters. The problem is that he doesn't appears much, he only appears at the start and the third act of the film but the trailer mainly shows you he's going to be in the full movie, again is this false advertising? Or is it made for people to go cinema to get butts on seats? Who knows!
The thing is that the movie spends way more time how is Garraka is cable of them actually showing it and went he dose it's only 25 mins left! That is not enough to justify the running time and we never got to see people freeze to death! I would feel more interested at the third act if people where killed but that's never shown, yeah it's a 12 rated film but I would argue that it's appropriate enough, it's like gore I'm referring any means. Would it be more interesting if Garraka is very sneaky and very clear then he shown up.
Final thoughts: So Ghostbusters: The Frozen Empire, is it Cinematic Classic Junk? It's not the worst out there but yes it is. The potential is there but man this is not it! But this movie is some how 5x better then Ghostbusters 2016 one!
So that's everything I got to say!
