Animated fantasy sequel that is just as charming as the first instalment, as Hiccup must again save wild dragons from an evil foe.

I loved it, in fact I love this entire series. My dad read the first book to me when I was really young and my parents took me to see this film when it was in the cinema. I enjoyed when I was young, and after my re-watch, I still do. Though before I continue this review, I felt that the film was too quick, it should've been about 10 minutes longer than it is, though I feel with it's 98 minute run time it leaves an impact on you that I should definitely recognise. I'll now ramble on about this film's greatness, the animation fairs up really well to this day, despite 10 years of advancement. The flying scenes being a definite highlight, the film captures a kind of majesty and wonder with them. And much like its predecessor, the music is excellent to boot and the characters are well developed and they don't feel wasted. **SPOILERS** The decision of revealing Hiccup's mother was a bit of a risky but it was done well. It didn't feel like an unnatural retcon retrospectively ruining the story. A thing I never noticed with the first film is that Hiccup's mother isn't there, so it was a very good choice the writers made to actively acknowledge this fact. It also fits in with the themes of the first film of a relationship with a son and his father, so why not take a look at the mum side of things? I hope to eventually get the third film on DVD.
