1985

New to our library is 1985, a rich and captivating period drama. Returning to his Texas hometown for Christmas, Adrian hopes to finally disclose his true self and his sexuality to his family. His parents' conservative and religious views, however, make this a difficult thing to do; his blunt father has narrow ideas of masculinity, while his caring mother urges for him to make amends with his high-school ex-girlfriend. This moving and intimate depiction of a young man's experience of the AIDS epidemic provides an accessible insight into the attitudes of the early 1980s and the emotional toll the disease took on individual lives.
