Into Film Clubs

Congratulations to 10 young people aged 13-14 from Cardiff, Wales, whose film Animated Voices has won Best Animation - 12-19 (sponsored by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, UK) at the 2025 Into Film Awards. The award was presented by Hugh Grant.
Created with support from Gritty Realism Productions, Animated Voices was made by young people living in Cardiff that hail from diverse ethnic minority backgrounds. The film sees them exploring their personal experiences of life in the UK, in their own words, and using their own animation. The film was funded by The Welsh Government through Diverse Cymru, working with Ethnic Minorities & Youth Support Team Wales.
The film was made by ten young people living in Cardiff that originally hail from diverse backgrounds, including Nigerian, Pakistani, Egyptian and Bangladeshi. The young people saw the film as a way to discuss their experiences of life in the UK in a fun way. The filmmaking process involved a series of workshops to introduce the participants to different aspects of animation production, where they learned about voicing and designing animated characters, storyboarding, lip-syncing and cut-out animation.
The final part of the project was a visit to a post-production house, enabling the young people to see the process of completing a finished film.
The experience was hugely enriching for the young people, and allowed them to learn a whole range of new skills, as well as granting them a platform for their voices to be heard and to tell their stories in their own words. "Me and my brother really liked the animation sessions and we would like to explore more about animation", said Aafaq and Haseeb, two of the young filmmakers.
"Yunus said he really enjoyed making cartoons and it was exciting to visit the studio to see how films are made", said the mother of another young filmmaker. "This was his first time doing something on his own making new friends without his sisters."
