Discover free films for watching, discussing and exploring filmmaking.
It's one achievement making your first feature film, but when your first feature film happens to be the first to have ever come out of a country, then that's a different achievement altogether! Haifaa Al-Mansour has done just that with the critically acclaimed Wadjda, a story of a young girl in Saudi Arabia who strives to forge her own path in a society that severely limits what a girl can and can't do. Our reporter Joe sat down with Haifaa to talk about the conditions she overcame to make the film, how her love of movies blossomed in a country where the cinema is still illegal and what long term influence her film could have on the Saudi Arabian film industry.
