Research and Impact - Film for Learning

Into Film supports teachers to use film and the moving image across the curriculum to drive positive learning outcomes for pupils.

Our comprehensive offer for schools includes our Teaching with Film programme, supported by the BFI awarding National Lottery good cause funding, which provides a range of classroom resources and training to educators teaching across the curriculum, including film and media studies.

Our offer also includes Into Film+, the UK's first free* streaming service for all school settings, a bespoke online learning platform for teachers, and a year-round in-cinema programme that each year hosts 500,000 children, young people and teachers at thousands of screenings and special education and careers-focussed events across the UK.

Our impact in the classroom

Film has an important role to play in delivering a broad and balanced curriculum and is used by educators throughout the UK to bring subjects alive, develop key skills and broaden pupils' access to enrichment activities and culture. In 2024, Into Film ran a survey with 339 educators, who reported the following outcomes:

  • Development of literacy skills - 83%
  • Development of social skills - 75%
  • Supported creativity - 95%
  • Increased motivation to learn - 82%
  • Increased enjoyment of school - 95%
  • Improved access to culture - 98%

The use of film has been extremely successful in engaging pupils with literacy, as the barrier of text is immediately removed. I have also seen that pupils have become more independent in their learning when using film.
