Into Film Awards 2024
Into Film Awards 2024

Below, you can find all of the entry criteria for the 2024 Into Film Awards.

Please note - entries for the 2024 Into Film Awards are now closed. The nominees will be announced in due course.

General criteria and appropriate content

In order to be shortlisted for the judges' consideration, films submitted must meet the following criteria:

  • Filmmakers must be aged between 5 and 19 years at the time of submitting
  • The film should be no longer than 10 minutes in duration, including title and credits
  • Any music, images and video content from a third party must be cleared for use by the copyright holder. We suggest only using free library music that can be easily sourced online.
  • No surnames of young people aged 18 or under should be used in the film, including the credits.
  • All young people aged 18 and under who have been involved in the making of the film must have a signed consent form. If your film is nominated, you will be asked to provide copies of your consent forms.

We also share many of the films we receive from young filmmakers on the Into Film website and on our YouTube channel for others to enjoy. Therefore, it is important that the content of your film is appropriate.

It's also worth noting that films that appear to condone or encourage risky behaviours have a limited appeal for many youth film festivals.

So please keep the following in mind:

  • Avoid swearing and offensive language.
  • Avoid showing risky behaviours, such as drug taking, smoking or excessive violence.
  • If depicting risky behaviour is part of your story, consider whether it is necessary to depict the behaviour explicitly on screen for the audience to understand what is happening.
  • Try to use your creativity to think about how you can explore these issues in a responsible way.

Time for Action

The Time for Action category is for films made by young people that raise awareness of issues and explore the changes they would like to make in the world, whether big or small; personal or society wide.

We are looking for films that capture young people's hopes and dreams, whether relating to their day-to-day life at home, at their youth club or school, or within their wider community.

Alternatively, young people could explore bigger changes that they want to see in the world. If there's an issue that is important to the young filmmakers, we want to hear about it. The film can be any genre and should be no longer than 10mins in length.

Films will be judged on the following areas:

  • Idea and voice - ideas are relevant to the theme, explored creatively, and effectively convey young people's opinions

  • Sound - the music, sound effects and dialogue are clear and strengthen the narrative/argument

You can nominate for this category. This year, the Ones to Watch prize includes an opportunity for some career progression development and the overall ‘Ones to Watch' winner will also receive a cash prize of £1,000.We are searching for young creatives and filmmakers from across the UK that show exceptional promise and potential.

Representatives from Into Film will select three young people in this category who demonstrate exceptional promise and potential in filmmaking.

You will be asked to provide at least two examples of films that the young person has made. You may also include a show-reel. In addition, you will be given the opportunity to provide extra documents or web links to further evidence and support your nomination.

  • To be nominated, the young person in question must be aged 13-19 years of age and reside in the UK.
  • Nominations can be made by any adult on behalf of a young person aged 13 or over (with the consent of a parent or guardian to support the nomination).

Filmmaking Champion

You can nominate for this category. We want to recognise and honour those individuals or groups that help support young people find an outlet through filmmaking. The nominated champion must run inspirational filmmaking projects with young people aged 5-19 facing challenges and barriers in their lives.

When reviewing submissions for Filmmaking Champion, judges will consider the following criteria to make their selection:

  • The nominated champion runs inspirational filmmaking projects with young people aged 5-19 facing challenges and barriers in their lives
  • Their filmmaking projects have a positive impact on the lives of young people
  • Their filmmaking projects have enabled young people to express themselves and to develop their creativity and storytelling
  • Their filmmaking projects have enabled young people to develop transferable skills, for example team working, problem solving etc.

Please try to include these details as you progress with your entry.

Entries can be for a single individual, or a small team of people that work together to champion filmmaking. The relevant filmmaking projects can take place in a school, the wider community, or any other setting. You can enter on behalf of yourself or put others forward for the award. (Note: anyone submitting an entry must be aged 20 or above - those younger will need the support of a parent/guardian to submit an entry).

You will be given the opportunity to provide documents or web links to evidence the above criteria and support your submission, and you will be asked to upload at least one film that you have supported young people to make.

This category is not predominantly focused on judging the actual films that the prospective Filmmaking Champion's work has enabled (these should be entered into the relevant filmmaking category), but rather their way of working with young people, and the positive impact this work has had on their lives, creativity, and skills.

Audience Choice

Voting for the Audience Choice award will commence on Into Film's social media channels once nominees in the other categories have been shortlisted.
