The supposedly unattractive Muriel (Toni Collette) is stuck in her dysfunctional family in a miserable small town, but harbours wild fantasies, fuelled by her obsessive love of Abba, of escaping to the big city, and there finding and marrying her dream man. This is good, escapist fun for the most part, with hilarious musical interludes, but there's also a darker undercurrent to the film, particularly when dealing with Muriel's mother.
This film has several uses of strong bad language
