Synopsis

A policeman drops in on a wealthy family to question them about the death by suicide of a young woman they knew. But is the inspector a real cop or something much stranger? Alastair Sim is perfect as the all-knowing visitor in this adaptation of JB Priestley's most famous play, which turns out to be an attack on inequality and how unaware the privileged are of the effect their power has on other people. But it works as a good spooky mystery film too.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
