A policeman drops in on a wealthy family to question them about the suicide of a young woman they knew. But is the inspector a real cop or something much stranger? Alastair Sim is perfect as the all-knowing visitor in this adaptation of JB Priestley's most famous play, which turns out to be an attack on inequality and how unaware the privileged are of the effect their power has on other people. But it works as a good spooky mystery film too.
A mystery novelist invites a medium over for dinner in the hopes of gathering enough material for his latest book, as well as exposing her as a fake.
