Sick of the dumbing down all around him, a black writer at a predominantly white TV station decides to quit. Then he has a better idea: to make a TV programme so culturally insensitive that he'll be fired, with a big payoff. But the plan backfires when his big idea, a minstrel show packed with offensive black stereotypes, becomes a ratings smash. From politically committed filmmaker Spike Lee, a powerful satire that seems designed to provoke audiences.
