Based on a true story, this harrowing film is no easy watch but its message of hope and redemption is a worthwhile one. Kevin Lewis was born to an unbalanced, abusive mother and neglectful, epileptic father; beaten and starved, he is failed by social services and returned to his parents to face more unmerited punishment. When he finally escapes them, he falls in with a criminal crowd, who nickname him The Kid - from there he spirals ever downward. How Kevin hit rock bottom and then became the successful writer he is today forms the rest of this absorbing tale.
This film contains several uses of strong bad language, one very strong.
