In the midst of World War II, weedy Steve Rogers is told he is not fit to enlist in the U.S. Army. Instead, he is conscripted into Project: Rebirth, a top-secret military experiment which involves him undergoing a dramatic transformation into a muscle-bound superhuman. He is then dispatched to take on the Nazis, led by the Red Skull. The Captain America character first appeared in 1941 and has been one of Marvel's most popular heroes ever since.
