Synopsis

As the allied forces arrive in Germany, and news travels of Hitler's death, teenager Lore is forced to grow up quickly when her Nazi parents are captured. Leading her younger brothers and sisters on a dangerous journey across the tumultuous warzone to her grandmother's house in Hamburg, she faces the reality of her parents' shocking beliefs. When they become friends with a young man who has survived a concentration camp, the horrors of the Holocaust become apparent and Lore questions everything she knows. This tense and harrowing story of innocence lost is adapted from Rachel Seiffert's novel The Dark Room.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
